Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort:- The Great Mehrangarh Fort is located in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan,India. It is more then 500 years old and one of the largest forts in India. The fort is amongst the popular tourist places in India. It is situated on a 150 m high hill. It was founded by Rao Jodha in 12, May1459. This fort is spread over an area of 5 sq. km. Several gates have to be crossed to reach the fort, A gate named Jayapol built by Maharaja Man Singh, Fattehpol built by Maharaja Ajit Singh. Loha Pol built by Maharaja Man Singh for her rani while committing sati. The final gate, the Suraj Pol, which leads to the museum, are some other attractive gates inside the Mehrangarh Fort.

Chamunda Mata Temple:- Chamunda Mata Temple, the city`s oldest temple built by Rao Jodha, Chamunda Mataji was Rao Jodha’s
favourite goddess, who brought the main idol from the old capital of Mandore in 1460. The temple sees exceptionally large
crowd during Dussehra celebrations.

There are a number of period rooms inside the Mehrangarh Fort.

1Moti Mahal(Pearl palace):- Moti Mahal is the largest period room of the fort. Built by Raja Sur Singh built ,
which has five hidden balconies. These balconies to be used by his five queens, for listening in on the court proceeding.

2. Sheesh Mahal(Mirror palace):- Sheesh Mahal has been as per the typical Rajput architectural style.

3. Phool Mahal:- Phool Mahal, built by Maharaja Abhaya Singh.Here, the Maharajas used this room to watch girls dancing under a ceiling of gold filigree.

4. Takhat Vilas:- Takhat Vilas is the residence of Maharaja Takhat Singh.

5. Jhanki Mahal(Queen`s Palace ):- there’s a colourful array of cradles of former rulers.

 
Galleries:-

The several galleries of Mehrangarh fort are definitely worth a visit. Howdah Gallery, Palanquin Gallery, Daulat Khana, Armory Gellery,Painting Gallery, Turban Gallery, Folk Musical Instruments Gallery etc.

The fort is also the venue for the Rajasthan International Folk Festival and World Sufi Spirit Festival. While RIFF is dedicated to promote and showcase folk music, Sufi festival promotes Sufi music.

Opening hours: open all days 9.00am to 5.00pm.
