Jaisalmer fort

Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest forts in the world. It is located in Jaisalmer city in the state of Rajasthan. Jaisalmer Fort was built in 1156 by the Bhati Rajput ruler Rao Jaisa. It is the second oldest fort in Rajasthan, India, next to the one in Chittorgarh. This fort, known as SONAR QUILA or the Golden fort. It is located in the heart of the city, and is one of the most magnificent monuments in the city of Jaisalmer. A visit to Jaisalmer will make you realize just how different a desert city can be. 

One of the assembly halls has blue Chinese tiles. Some rooms are closed with their original ancient locks. It is said that the fort does not have any cemented stones in its foundation. No vehicle traffic is allowed inside the fort. Sunrise and sunset are especially enchanting times to be on the walls of the fort. The view is spectacular. The fort is the highlight of Jaisalmer, and is one of the most interesting and romantic places in India. This fort have 99 bastions and corner towers. Numerous bastions are made accessible through gates, viz. Akhay Pol, Suraj Pol, Ganesa Pol and Hawa Pol.

This golden fort is also a haven for 7 Jain temples and are open daily from 7 am till noon. Jain temples, constructed between the 12th and 15th centuries and are dedicated to various Jain Tirthankars (Hermits). On the walls of the temples, you can find animal & human figures, carved in famous Dilwara. style. These temples are built in the Dilwara style that is famous all over the world for its architecture.

1. Parsvanatha temple
2. Sambhavanatha temple
3. Sitalanatha temple,
4. Santinatha temple
5. Kunthunatha temple,
6. Chandraprabha temple and
7. Rishabhanatha temple.

Hindu temples:-
1. Sambhava Nath Temple:- there is a statue in the temple the size of a grain of rice.

2. Siva and Ganesh temples:- The Ganesh temple is an very old temple.It`s near the Lakshmi Nath Temple.

3. Chintamani Parsvanath Temple :- It is the oldest and main temple. In this temple are intricate carvings of Vishnu, Lakshmi, Siva, Parvati, Brahma, lions, and many others.

4.Lakshminatha temple:- Laxminath temple is important which was constructed by Maharawal Bairi Singh in A.D. 1437. The fort has tastefully carved palaces e.g. Rang Mahal, Sarvottam Vilas, Gajmahal, Zenana Mahal, Moti Mahal, Bada-Vilas and Jawahar-Vilas. The pillar in this temple was brought from Lodarva and dates to the 9th century . Lakshmi Nath means Vishnu, the Lord of Lakshmi, the Goddess of Fortune.
