Chittorgarh Fort in Rajasthan India

                                                                                       CHITTORGARH FORT 

Chittorgarh Fort is the largest fort of India. Chittorgarh is pride & glory of Rajasthan. The fort has a long story of romance, courage, determination and sacrifice. The fort, popularly known as Chittor, was the capital of Mewar and is today situated in Chittorgarh City.   Chittorgarh is the epitome of Rajput pride, romance and spirit. The main reason for visiting Chittorgarh It is famous for the story of Padmini taking part in jauhar when Alauddin Khilji had besieged the fort. It is massive hilltop fort, which is a depiction of Rajput culture and values. 

Location: At a distance of 112km from Udaipur, on a high hill near the Gambheri River in Chittaurgarh, Rajasthan

Built by: Various Maurya rulers 

Built in: 7th century A.D

Highlights: Numerous palaces and towers inside the fort

How to reach: One can easily reach Chittorgarh Fort either by taking Taxis.

The fort was attacked three times. 

1. In 1303 by the Allaudin Khilji 

2. In 1535 Sultan Bahandur Shah Of Gujarat 

3. In 1567 Mughal Emperor Akbar

Water Fort :

Chittorgarh fort is also called as Water Fort. The fort had 84 water bodies, out of which only about 22 exist today. These Include talabs (ponds), kunds (wells), and baories (stepwells). All the talabs have a natural catchment.

Palace To Visit At Fort:-

1. Vijay Stambha:-

Vijay Stambh also called tower of victory, was built around 1440 by Maharana Kumbha.  The tower is nine storeys high. Providing an amazing view of the whole town are its balconies. The tower is illuminated in the evening. The tower is dedicated toVishnu

2. Kirti Stambha:-

kirti Stambha of Chittorgarh is a 22-meter-tall tower built by a Jain  Merchant in 12th century. It is also known as the Tower of Fame. The tower is dedicated to the first Thirthankara, Sri Adinath. Figures of Thirthankaras indicate that it belongs to Diganmbara sect.

3. Gaumukh Reservoir:-

The literal meaning of the place (Gomukh) is ‘the mouth of a cow’.  This pool was the main source of water at the fort during the numerous sieges. the Gaumukh reservoir is one of the most important water tank.  It is located near a temple, and is a complete natural beauty. Feeding the fish here is considered to be an auspicious ritual. 

4.  Rana Kumbha Place:-

 It is the oldest palace within the fort and was built by Rana Kumbha in 1433-68. The Rana Kumbha Palace, near the Vijay Stambh, Rana Kumbha Palace was the birthplace of Maharana Udai Singh - the founder of Udaipur. Rani Meera Bai also lived in this palace. 

5. Padmini Palace:-

Padmini mahal is just between kalika Mata temple and Nagchandreshwar Mahadev temple. This beautiful palace related to princess padmini and first johar in the world. The building near to water source is very well maintained. A verygood garden in the building having lots of roses. The other building which was separate living place of rani padmini is in water.   

6. Meera Temple(meera mandir):-

Meera Temple is the One of the most beautiful temple in chittor fort.  As Chittorgarh was the birthplace of Meera Bai, the most ardent devotee of Lord Krishna. This is the temple where meera bai regularly worshiped his god Girdhar Gopal (Lord Krishna).

7. Kalika Mata Temple (Kalikamata Mandir):-

Bappa Rawal built the Kallika Mata temple during the 8th century. This temple was destroyed after the attack by Allaudin Khilji. Dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple is placed between Padmini palace and Victory tower. The temple complex also has a huge empty area where ‘Ratri Jagrans’ are organized. The temple complex also has a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is called Jogeshwar Mahadev.

8. Fateh Prakash Palace-(Government Museum):-

Located near the Meerabai temple in Chittorgarh Fort, it is a classic example of Rana love for art. It was built by Rana Fateh Singh & famous for a big lord Ganesh idol,  It also have modern houses & the museum ‘Fateh Prakash Palace museum’. Fateh Prakash Mahal also has artistic pillars and corridors which attracts every visitors eye.

9. Jain Temple (Jain mandir):-

At present six jain temples on the fort of Chittor. The largest  temple of Bhagawan Adinatha with fifty-two devkulikas. The place of this temple is known as ‘Sattavish devri’.

10. Seven Gates of Fort

The person has to enter in the fort through seven gates .Each gate have different name.design & size. All the gateways to the fort have been built as massive stone structures. Seven Gates are also called seven pol.
