Red Fort in Delhi India

Delhi is capital of India and Red Fort is situated in Delhi, India. It is laid out along the river Yamuna as an irregular octagon. It is surrounded by a wall of about 2.4 kilometers in circumference and is built of red sandstone. which was constructed during the 17th century. Mughal King Shah Jahan, when in 1639, shifted the capital of his empire from Agra to Delhi

The fort has two main entrances, the delhi gate and the Lahori gate which faces the famed Chandni Chowk market. In the basement of the fort is a market where several traditional Indian goods can be purchased at nominal rates. Another attraction is the Light and sound show held in the evenings. During the times of Mughal, it was called Qila-i-Mubarak. About nine to ten years to complete the construction of the red fort.

Some useful point highlight:-

  • Build by Mughal King Shah Jahan

  • The wall is build of red sand stone. That is why the fort is called red fort

  • Every year on 15 August (on India's independence day), prime minister of India gives speech to the nation from the lal qila.
  • In 2007 UNESCO included the Red Fort in the list of World Heritage Site.

  • It was originally known as Qila-e-Mubarak.

  • Lal Qila was once the residential area of the Imperial Family of India. it was the royal residence of Mughals.

  • This fort has various structures including Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Nahr-i-Behisht, Zenana, Mumtaz Mahal, Moti Masjid and Hayat Bakhsh Bagh.
  • The attractions of the red fort is that Hamaam (Royal bath), Shahi Burj (Shah Jahan's private working area), Rang Mahal (Palace of Colors), the nice and large wall of red fort etc

  • The place was opened as a tourist attraction only after 2003, until then it was under the Indian National Army’s control.

It is located on Netaji Subhash Marg, right next to Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi. Today, Red Fort is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Old Delhi. I have to say that visit this place a minimum of once in your life. Have a pleasant day.
