At the eastern end of Rajpath is India Gate, a memorial dedicated to the soldiers who died during world war first. The 42m (137-ft.) memorial. which features an eternal flame, is yet another work by Lutyens. It commemorates the 90,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during the World War. The pillar along with whole monument representing the gate of India is built over the stone platform including Red Bharatpur stone along with the cornice elements also available.
This place is considered as a tomb for all soldiers who becomes martyr for pride of India which is known as Amar javan jyoti was added much later, after India got its independence.
