The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Laxmi Narayan), the preserver of the Universe. The gateway of this Jagdish Temple can be sited at a distance of 150 meters from the Bara Pol of the City Palace.

Temple looking two elephants will greet you at the doorway, you will find an idol of the half man-half eagle Garuda after the first flight of stairs. Famous for its intricately carved pillars and doorways (you will find 50 on both its floors, each with unique carvings), the main shrine of this temple houses a massive four armed image of Lord Vishnu, carved out of a single black rock.

It is a major monument in Udaipur. The Jagdish Temple is raised on a tall terrace and was completed in 1651. It attaches a double-storey Mandapa (hall) to a double-storey saandhara (with a covered ambulatory) sanctum.
